This book reads easy enough for our 7 year to understand, yet spiritually challenges our twin 9 year olds, as well as our 12 year old. The prophetic training lessons inserted throughout this book are practical, simple and saturated with the Presence of God. Plus, it's funny and entertaining for the whole family as we read it together each night. So good! We will definitely read this several times (repetition increases retention). Our kids are really hearing God's voice, and not just small things. They are hearing God's voice over thier futures and during extremely difficult social matters in school. This book has an annointing and favor on it!
My daughter who just turned 13 read this whole book as soon as it arrived, a really good book she tells me. She had attended a growing up conference with Shawn Bolz and his lovely wife last year along with many other kids. She loves being able to hear Gods voice for herself)
I purchased this book over the summer for my 10 year old granddaughter as I knew I would have her for 2 months and wanted to plant good seeds in her heart. This book did not disappoint!! We started out that I would read a page and then she would read a page. Mid way through the first chapter, she asked if she could just read it to me as she was so intrigued with what would happen next. She really enjoyed the stories and it became a conversation opportunity as she read a chapter a day to me. Really impressed and would love more Christian children’s books with so much “spiritual adventure”!
This book even taught ME some lessons!! We read it at night to our 3,4 and 6 yr olds. I would say the 6 yr old was the only one old enough to understand some of the wisdom in this book. However, I know it's a resource we can revisit time and time again as the kids get older.
My daughter is 8 so on the young side for this book. We haven't found the story to be really engaging so she isn't asking to read more like she has with other books. We are only two chapters in so it certainly has potential to get better. Stories can be great teachers so we will still finish the book as the principles and ideas it teaches are very worthwhile and children are more open to this format than a lecture!
We are 3 chapters into this book but so far we are loving it! My 6 year old sons are enjoying the story and keep asking us to read ahead. I can see where the story will appeal to older children but love that my 6 year olds can also grasp it. I am most excited about this book as a parenting tool as I want to raise my children to be sensitive to Holy Spirit but am still figuring it out myself. We have heard so much about Shawn Bolz from our family members but this is the first of his books that my husband and I have purchased. My husband has read to the children the last two nights and said last night "this book keeps making me cry"... I'm not sure exactly why but it definitely makes me want to go back and read the chapters I missed -- I'm assuming it is just speaking to his heart as he reads to the kids.
This is such a relatable, practical book for kids and does a great job of showing them that not only can they hear God's voice, but what that looks like in the every day lives of kids and in situations that they face! The book teaches kids that they can hear, obey, and be a friend of God's now, while they are kids! Such a powerful message for all of us, but it's presentation is perfect for kids!
It's an illustrated chapter book that is probably ideal for 3rd grade readers (font size, etc.). However, the message is very relevant for the target audience of 7-12 year olds, and I believe all those ages will love it and learn from it! This would also be a great & fun book for family devotions, with, perhaps, a bit of discussion about what is taught through the story chapter-by-chapter. I hope this will be a series, and I will definitely check out the accompanying workbook!
